Celebrating flight across the years and across the magazines
Computing Unplugged Magazine - December 2003
This article is the introduction to our series honoring 100 years of flight. It's repeated in each of our magazines this month. Be sure to read the fifteen special articles across all our magazines for some amazingly powerful stories in honor of this special anniversary.
The twelve seconds that changed history
Computing Unplugged Magazine - December 2003
The 20th Century and aviation began with an unforgettable minute in the span of time, atop a hill on a bitter, cold, windy Carolina morning. Never in the course of history did an event, no matter the magnitude or size, affect the course of the entire world, as did the first powered flight of man. This is the story of that event.
99 years and 350+ days
Computing Unplugged Magazine - December 2003
It's now time to celebrate the 100 years of powered flight and the accomplishments that the Wright brothers gave to aviation. Although, the fundamentals of powered flight, such as lift, drag, bank and roll have not changed, much has changed dramatically. This article showcases discussion and some great pictures by Matthew Justice.
The spirit is born
Computing Unplugged Magazine - December 2003
Kathy Walker has a degree in nursing and worked in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for seven years, transporting very ill children across the Pacific Northwest. She earned her private pilot's license in 1981 in Spokane, Washington and this year attained her Multi-Engine Flight Instructor rating and Airline Transport Pilot's license. In this moving article, she tells the story of a skinny little girl who grew up and learned to play in the clouds.
Help celebrate the First Flight Anniversary with your articles and pictures
Computing Unplugged Magazine - November 2003
December 17, 2003 marks the 100-year anniversary of the Wright Brothers' historic 59-second powered flight. This is an event that truly heralded a change in our society. I'd like to honor that flight (and the accomplishment of the two brothers who stuck to their project through all the ups and downs) by running a series of articles about flight in the December 14th issue of each of the ZATZ magazines.
