BUDGET COMPUTING
A cheap way to schedule repeating tasks
By Mike Stout

I've been a handheld user for fifteen years now, and I hate Palm's ToDo application. I would not be using it today if it were not for budget constraints. In my opinion, ToDo is simplistic at best and seriously lacking in even the most basic features that make handhelds and computers most useful at tracking lists.

The one feature that I miss the most since migrating from an iPAQ to a Palm handheld is repeating tasks. It wasn't until just recently that I found a work-around that doesn't require putting a dent in my personal paycheck.

Instead of checking off tasks as completed and then having to manually re-enter them, I simply reschedule the task for a later date. At first I felt badly about not actually completing tasks or having a record to show for it, but I quickly got over it when I saw how fast I could handle daily, weekly and monthly tasks.

With the dates visible in the right-hand column I can simply select the date of the task and click "Tomorrow", "One week later" or choose a new date for the task to reoccur. If "Show Only Due Items" is selected then tasks disappear after being rescheduled and I still feel a sense of satisfaction as I watch my daily task list shrink to nothing.

The time-savings is huge and the learning curve was nominal. Try it yourself and see how you can save time scheduling your daily tasks.
